Travel Story Contest #2 : Exploring the beauty of WayanadBy

It was Summer and hot in Bangalore when we decided we need a break and get out to some cool place for few days. Bangalore, though has some great hill stations in around it like Ooty, Kodai, but the first place in the list will always be Kerala with such beautiful places like Wayanad and Munnar in it. So, we decide that we will first visit Wayanad for 2-3 days, one day in Calicut and then proceed to Munnar.

After researching on a good place to stay, I shortlisted 3 resorts/hotels and Le Villagio was one of them. The first thing that caught my attention was the website giving details of the property and some beautiful photos. I thought this will be like any other websites where the photos will be invariably of the very first few photos taken when the property is new and then reality will be different. But somehow, I was seeing honesty in their message and decided to try it out by calling them. The very first experience was very positive with the gentleman on the other side answering all my queries patiently and also offering extra inputs and in my subsequent mails and queries that helped me in ultimately making the decision of booking their for 4 days.

Luxury apartment

When we reached on 28 Apr, the weather was picture perfect with greenery all round and then when we saw the property nestled amidst this greenery but not far from main road, it was bliss! What is the point of stay too deep inside and being locked up in your room!! Therefore, this was perfect location giving best of both worlds — privacy at the same time, accessibility to main road, shopping and hotels.

It was a beautiful & new property with 12 apartments spread across two floors. The staff were excellent, helpful and courteous. There was adequate parking space and then property is surrounded by greenery all around with many birds chirping all day. It is like luxury home stay and not some commercial property and that is the best part of the whole stay. Breakfast was not lavish like five stars but who requires that! It was homely, just the right variety and quantity and second helping was given with smile! Buffet breakfast and dinner could be introduced in future with dinner being charged for guest who would like to eat at the hotel instead of going out. Currently people order or go to main road where there are many hotels offering diverse types of food.

The rooms were neat, clean and spacious with good balcony view. We had a wonderful stay for 4 days covering most of the tourist places which were just 30-45 mts around the property. We visited Edakkal caves, Banasura dam, Pookot lake, Banasura hill, Kurvadweep Island, Meenmutty falls, Chain tree of Karinthandan and few temples nearby. We didn’t opt for any tourist package and but you could probably arrange one by speaking with the front desk at the hotel. There were many other restaurants and shopping that was just 1 kms away. Few days we just walked across to main road to do some shopping, eat out and some days we just ordered food as well which was delivered within 30 minutes.

When we stayed, we could see some construction / improvement activity happening adjacent to the parking space which looked like gobar gas plant which proves this hotel believes in ecofriendly tourism. Kids playing area was limited but could introduce few more items for the kids.

Will I stay there again and would I recommend this place to my friends and family? Definitely YES! This is a good place to stay for family and friends.
